Volunteer at Meath School

I CAN's Meath School regularly has various ranges of extremely rewarding opportunities for volunteers to support their work.

There are many reasons that people volunteer at Meath School. For some, volunteering at Meath School can be a route to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change. For others, volunteering at Meath School appeals because of its social benefits. Volunteers have a powerful influence on the success of Meath School programmes, and on the young people they help.

The pupils at Meath School are of primary school age (5 to 11 years) and have severe speech, language and communication difficulties as the main feature of their complex profiles. Our present volunteers are wide ranging, including students and those who have retired. Find out more about I CAN's Meath School.

As a volunteer at Meath School we need you to make a limited commitment and be reasonably reliable about your availability. Present offers range through helping during lunchtimes on one or two days per week; half-day classroom support; full day or days classroom support; all week classroom support over an extended period of time. Some volunteers provide support beyond the school day, i.e. from 3.30pm into the early evening, for those children who board or take advantage of the extended day activities offered at Meath School.

As a volunteer at Meath School you will gain increasing awareness and understanding of speech, language and communication difficulties and the ways in which our specialist teams work to reduce its impact. We also hope that you will also derive great satisfaction and enjoyment as our previous volunteers have, from the part you are able to play in this.

"We can’t thank Meath, especially the overnight team, and the benefactors whose generosity allows this scheme to continue, enough. Words can’t describe what it means to us..." Parent

As Meath School is working with vulnerable young children, two written references and an enhanced CRB check (funded by I CAN) are required.

Would you like the chance to make a difference to a child and their families and play a part in helping Meath School?
