Munch, Munch, Munch
This song is all about the lifecycle of a butterfly. Through the song children learn about the egg-butterfly metamorphisis and get the chance to act it out too. We generally use this song in a nursery setting and give each child a square of coloured material which is used in turn to symbolise a garden, a leaf, a cocoon and finally the beautiful wings of a butterfly. Older children could take different roles, some could be eggs, some caterpillars etc to create a more sophisticated enactment of the song. As a supporting activity we generally read a book about the butterfly lifecycle with the children. For younger children this can be something like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" whilst for older children a more "scientific" book would be appropriate.
