Early Talk and Every Child Matters/GIRFEC outcomes

Early Years Foundation Stage: Communication, Language and Literacy (EYFS: CLL) and curriculum for Excellence

Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and write must be supported and extended. They must be provided with opportunity and encouragement to use their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes, and be supported in developing the confidence and disposition to do so.

Early Talk supports attainment of the EYFS: CLL targets and meets the requirements of the Every Child a Talker programme. Early Talk supports early years practitioners in helping children to progress successfully through the Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland by raising awareness and the vital importance of early communication skills for future learning.

Narrowing the Gap

• The biggest challenge continues to be narrowing the gap in opportunities and outcomes between most children and young people and those that are the most vulnerable or underachieving.

• Strong partnerships are of pivotal importance - from strategic level to front-line working – in order to secure the necessary level of support and style of service delivery that will have a positive impact on outcomes for all children and young people, and narrow the gap between high performing and weaker partnerships.

Early Talk supports the objectives of the early years outcomes, quality and inclusion funding.

Development of the early years workforce

Local authorities have responsibility for developing the skills of early years workers in order to achieve the Every Child Matters outcomes in England and GIRFEC outcomes in Scotland.

Early Talk supports the development of early years professionals. The Early Talk training directly links to levels 2/3 qualifications for the early years workforce.
