Free resource for secondary schools!

The Communication Trust is currently offering one free copy to all secondary schools of the Afasic resource - Including young people with speech, language and communication difficulties in secondary school.

This resource is for those seeking theory and practice to support young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) within mainstream secondary schools. The content is based on the experience of speech and language therapists and teachers working collaboratively in real classrooms.

The resource is in two parts, Part A is a hard copy booklet and Part B is a CD Rom which provides a set of related materials for use by specialist staff providing CPD to groups.

To order your free copy please e-mail enquiries@thecommunicationtrust.org.uk.

If you would like to order multiple copies, they can be ordered through the Afasic website, www.afasic.org.uk, at £12.50 per copy including p&p.

We need your help! And in return we will give you £50 worth of free resources!

We are doing some research looking at how effective the SLCF is as an evaluation tool and in return we have a number of excellent resources for practitioners and parents to support children’s communication development which we will send you for free .

This should take no more than an hour of your time.

All you need to do is the following 5 steps:

1. Contact us to let us know you are able to help on 020 7 843 2553 or email enquiries@thecommunicationtrust.org.uk. We will give you a group number for when you complete the SLCF and let you know exactly what you need to do.

2. Register on the website - this will take only 5 minutes, go to www.communicationhelpoint.org.uk.

3. Complete one stage of the online self evaluation – this might be universal, enhanced or specialist and we will let you know which stage we would like you to complete. This is likely to take around 20-30 minutes.

4. Then we ask you NOT TO do any training, or continued professional development relating to speech, language and communication for the next 4-6 weeks - this is essential.

5. Next, about 4-6 weeks later, we will need you to complete the same online evaluation (you won’t be able to see your answers from the first time).

This will really help us to fully evaluate the effectiveness of the SLCF in measuring how confidence changes over time and demonstrate its usefulness as a tool.

If you’re interested in helping us, or know someone who might be, please do get in touch for more information or to register. This would take place in January/February 2010.
