I CAN’s Chatterbox Challenge is an annual sponsored sing-along for children aged 0 - 5 years across the UK.
This year’s theme ‘Garden Adventures with Ben & Holly’ encourages children to develop their communication and language skills by having adventures inside and outside and singing songs which help children to learn about their surroundings. Children will have fantastic fun learning songs around the theme and singing them together in an inclusive sing-along. As well as developing their own communication skills they'll be raising funds to help children across the UK who are struggling to communicate.
Clare Geldard, I CAN’s Chatterbox Challenge Communication Advisor, shares with us why singing is so important in helping to develop children’s communication skills.
‘Nursery rhymes and songs have been sung for hundreds of years to entertain children, distract them or soothe them to sleep. Singing with your baby or child also helps to develop children’s speech and language –learning to pay attention, developing an enjoyment for listening, understanding about rhyme and learning new words’.
