I CAN Solutions 0-19
What are I CAN Talk Programmes?
Our Talk programmes have been developed by specialist speech and language therapists (SLTs) and teachers. They provide training and accreditation to schools and settings to help them support children’s speech, language and communication.
The programmes are designed to be flexible. They can be offered to individual schools and settings or clusters of schools and local authorities.
Programmes for working with children and young people of different ages
Early Talk 0-3 supports the communication development of children under the age of three. It provides a review and planning tool for children’s services, a programme of development for staff, and resources and information for practitioners and parents.
Early Talk is a programme of advisory support, information and professional development. It can be delivered to entire children’s services or individual nurseries or childcare providers working with children under five.
Primary Talk is an evidence-informed, structured learning programme. It develops the skills and practice of primary school practitioners in the vital area of children’s communication. It is a flexible package available to local authorities, clusters or individual primary schools.
Secondary Talk is an evidence-based practical programme to help schools support their young people to develop essential communication skills leading to improvements in both behaviour and engagement in learning.
A Chance to Talk is a programme that uses a 3 level approach to supporting the speech, language and communication skills of children aged 4 - 7. Staff in local provision will work jointly with experts from other organisations like I CAN.
Choosing your level
You can work at the level which best suits the needs of your setting and your children

The setting will be able to promote the development of speech and language skills in all children and will know where to get support if a child is having difficulties.
Enhanced:
The setting will be able to promote the development of speech and language skills in all children. They will also have a greater understanding of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). They willbe more able to support children with SLCN and work with the SLTs who may be involved with them.
Specialist:
The setting will be able to promote speech and language development in all children. It will also provide specialist and integrated education and speech and language therapy support for those children with the most severe SLCN.
