Projects and Programmes

Early Language Development Programme (ELDP)

I CAN is leading a partnership to deliver the new Early Language Development Programme, which is funded by Department for Education. The Early Language Development Programme (ELDP) aims to boost the language skills of all children aged 0-5, particularly those at risk of language delay. The three year programme will give parents and practitioners the skills and knowledge to support the development of speech, language and communication in the early years.

A Chance to Talk

A Chance to Talk (ACTT) is a unique programme of training, support and intervention. It will enable clusters of primary schools to provide an evidence based approach to improving the speech, language and communication skills of children aged 4-7. It has been developed by children's communication charity I CAN, The Communication Trust and the Every Child a Chance Trust.

Engage in Education

I CAN is a partner in Engage in Education, a Department for Education funded project which aims to reduce number of young people at risk of exclusion in secondary schools. Led by Catch 22, the consortium includes Rathbone, Pupil Parent Partnership (PPP) and Dyslexia Action – organisations with a strong track record of working with vulnerable young people and their families.

Raising Your Game

Raising Your Game (RYG) is a ground breaking, five year project, running from August 2009 until 2014. It is funded by the Big Lottery fund and led by Mencap in partnership with I CAN and Nacro.

Raising Your Game aims to improve the lives of young people aged between 14 – 25 with a learning disability or communication difficulty, who have either offended or are at risk of offending. The project will support and empower these young people to address the challenges they face in playing a full role in society..
