Supporting Communication

This training package corresponds to the pre-foundation level of the Joint Professional Development Framework and aims to:
  • Increase participants knowledge of speech, language and communication development
  • Highlight the signs of speech, language and communication difficulty
  • Increase participants knowledge of ways to create an environment that supports communication  
  • Highlight sources of information and support for practitioners.

This training is appropriate for:

  • Early years practitioners who have limited experience of working with children with a communication disability or who want to increase their knowledge of the development of speech, language and communication
  • Speech and language therapy assistants who have limited experience of working with children in early years or pre-school settings
  • Speech and language therapists who are new to working with early years/pre-school practitioners or settings and would benefit from sharing experience, knowledge and skills.

This full day (five hour) course will be delivered by speech and language therapists and specialist teachers. After attending this training participants will be able to create a language friendly classroom - an environment which supports language learning.

This training is also available as a stand alone package from I CAN's Training Department.

In each I CAN Early Talkpartnership area at least 100 early years practitioners will be able to access this training.
