Exploring Communication Development: A resource for working with parents

Using the Exploring Communication Development pack, a practitioner can provide sessions for parents to explore how to support their child’s speech, language and communication.

During the two sessions parents will:

  • Learn the importance of communication development for all children
  • Identify key factors in the development of communication
  • Identify their role in supporting children’s communication development
  • Gain an understanding of how they can support their children’s communication development
  • Know where to find information and support on children’s communication development.
The resource includes a brochure and CD with PowerPoint presentation, a copy each of the Ready Steady Talk activity book and Chatter Matters DVD resources and a Stages of Speech and Language Development poster.

I CAN runs a training course for practitioners entitled Resources and strategies for working with parents. During this course, practitioners learn how to support parents, and receive instruction on the best use of the Exploring Communication pack.
